Our New Berry Patch

Over the last few weeks we have been slowly clearing the side of our house. It was a mess, not only with old bricks, but well established plants that had huge root systems! Let's just say not all the gardening tools made it out! Thankfully, after a chainsaw and a pick came to the rescue - not to mention my husband, it was all clear!

Whilst digging it out we found old edging next to the path, that meant we didn't have to do a thing! I love digging away and peeling back the layers of this house - you can see how the previous owners have changed things along the way.

In our last house we had 6 raised garden beds and 17 fruit trees. Our new house is on a bigger block, and we would like to expand the different types of fruits we have this time - hopefully making it so we have something fresh to pick each month! Here are where the berries come in! We haven't had berries before. Okay okay, a friend did give me a blueberry last year in a pot that gave us a huge handful of berries - but Jack knocked it over, and it died!

So this time we are dedicating the side of the house to our new berry patch!!! We are so excited! We will, as the plants get bigger build a system in for the berries to climb up and spread on.

So far we have planted a blueberry, a blackberry, and a loganberry (a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry)! These will be great for the kids to munch on in summer as they play outside. Also they'll be wonderful for jams, to freeze and to bottle for pies! The options are endless and we cannot wait till we see the little sweet berries growing!

What are you planting?
