Port Douglas Family Holiday 2016

Port Douglas....this is my most loved travel destination! My love of Port Douglas started a little over 20 years ago (side point - how scary is it when you reach that point in your life, when you can say 'oh 20 years ago....' I feel too young to be using terminology like that! But alas...20 years ago!) my family travelled up to Port Douglas and spent 6 weeks there! Fast forward some...ahem.....20 years.... and my husband and I have travelled there quite a number of times now, both before and after the children arrived.

It has been a buuuusssyyyy year here at Four Chooks Farm, so we decided to get away for a little break. Our trip started in NSW visiting a new (gorgeous) member of the family, and some time was spent in the Gold Coast too. Now this is where our trip got fun! Our children thought we were then (after our long weekend visiting family) boarding a plane back to Adelaide. But we were not..... (queue nervous excitement) .... As the plane was landing our children started saying 'this doesn't look like Adelaide', 'we don't have mountains like that', then as if on command the flight attendant happily announced 'We have now landed in Cairns we hope you enjoy your stay here!'.......

'WE ARE IN CAIRNS??' The look on their faces was priceless, grinning from ear to ear!
Surprise kids!

Thus started the second part of our getaway. It was hot and humid, tropical and sunny, all the things you expect from the top end of Australia. We spent days by the pool, afternoons cracking open coconuts on the beach, we took the train up to Kuranda and the sky rail down over the rainforest, we spent a glorious day at the Low Isles snorkelling and enjoying the picturesque island views, we wandered through markets and lazily up and down the main street. And Mr Four Chooks Farm got in some well earned fishing time! It was perfect. The perfect mix of relaxation and recreation. A reset to get back to normal life.

So, back to normality we are. Taking care of our little suburban farm. But rested and with a head full of beautiful memories to ponder upon.

Here are a few happy snaps....

Enjoy!
