Garlic

Yippee! After 6 loooong months of waiting our beautiful fragrant garlic was ready for harvesting! I was so excited as this is the first large crop we've planted, that should get us through till next garlic harvest!!!

I picked them, and left them outside to dry for a few days....

Then with the help of my daughter we dusted off any dirt, dry leaves etc, and trimmed the roots off...

Next we plaited / braided the garlic. I looked on you tube and found some great videos that show you step by step what to do. I've found the easiest way is to star with 3 garlics, tie those together and then add a garlic to the middle one and then bring the left side over. Then add another garlic to the left side this time but again brining the new stem to the centre (or the middle one of the three garlic strands). Repeat for the right side and so on ensuring that each time you add a garlic you bring the stem to the centre. Tie off when you get to the top. We've hung ours outside to continue drying, then will hand in a cool, dry, dark place.

Any suggestions on how you store your garlic for the year???
